Having a blog means you get that nagging feeling to write something on a regular basis and when you don’t you feel lazy and full of regret. It’s not that I don’t have anything to write its just the way time catches up with you and before you know it, a month or more has passed by and the blog still has an update about Christmas on it when its July. I’m not that bad but when I leave it even a short while I get an itch to write about something…
I was lucky enough to get a short break to Mijas, Spain where the weather was warm and the food amazing.
My trip started from London City Airport, which is only 15 mins from my home. This should have made it a quick getaway but the bloody French air traffic controllers decided that they needed to strike once again and we waited in the terminal for an update. After 2 hours of waiting, eating and playing on my iPhone there still wasn’t any update. Fortunately a friend knew the rules and it was up to British Airways to offer a food voucher. Not that the cheeky buggers were going to offer this voluntarily which added to my frustrations. The massive amount of £5 was barley enough to get a coffee and certainly not any food. However, we did sit down to a second breakfast, which passed the time until we got the news that our flight might be going in another 90 minutes.
When the time finally came for us to board the plane and get buckled in, I started to forget the long delay and get myself into holiday mode. Our pilot arrived in jeans and a shirt, clearly called in at the last minute. He began his welcome speech by saying, hurry up, sit down or we won’t be going. A sense of dread and confusion came over me. How on earth can a plane, that’s been sitting on the tarmac for nearly 4 hours only get fueled and loaded at the last minute and then have to make a bank robbery style get away? And if we don’t hurry up, its going back home time??? Anyway, the plane did take off like a rocket and not before too long we arrived in Spain.
The weather back home has for the past few years been gray, cold and wet. I needed a holiday more than anything and walking out of the terminal into the sunshine and warm air I could feel the stress levels dropping. I won’t bore you with every single detail of my trip or drag you to my house to watch a 5 hour slide show. All I’ll say is that swimming, eating healthy and sleeping in the sun every day gives your body and soul the perfect recharge. The days passed so very quickly eating tapas, drinking posh gin and trying new things. I can’t thank my friends and hosts enough for looking after us. Never have I felt so welcomed, relaxed and looked after. Something I wish BA would learn…
The pictures below sum up our time away.
Thank you K & A.
