Moli meets…

This week has been fairly busy for me and certainly long, containing 9 days without a day off.  Its not something I really want to do on a regular basis but it was required and I’m glad its over now.  To keep my spirits up, I was looking forward to Friday and going to see comedian Rhod Gilbert at the Hammersmith Apollo,  it was DVD recording night of The Man with the Flaming Battenberg Tattoo show and for the most part it was very funny. We had front row tickets which means I’ll be on the DVD without fail and for the most part laughing at the right bits I hope.

On the way over to the theatre I decided to take a trip on the new cable car across the Thames called the Emirates Air Line.  The weather was’t great and I only had my camera with me but the views were spectacular.

Today was another busy day at a London film fair which normally means people dressing up as various popular culture icons and loads of nurds buying t-shirts, mugs and for some reason today Rambo knifes and martial arts weapons from the movies.  What these geeks plan to do with them eludes me.  One of the highlights today was meeting a few Hollywood actors who ventured across the atlantic to promote their work or just themselves.  So, I had the pleasure in meeting, Karl Urban, Jeri Ryan and Gillian Andeson…

Karl Urban - Bones - Star Trek

Jeri Ryan - Seven of Nine - Star Trek Voyager

Gillian Anderson - Scully - XFILES

So, after a week of counting down from day 1 of 9, I ended up back to Seven of Nine…

Now its time for me to regenerate in my alcove, I’m exhausted.

A right Moli Jubilee…

I think its time for a catch up. After all, I started this blog to get an insight into Moli’s world and then I go and forget or honestly couldn’t be motivated enough to write something. Indeed, the last time I wrote something on here was just before the Queens Jubilee river pageant, which I planned to attend. My girlfriend Fleur told me that my last entry wasn’t very good and it would have been better not to do it at all, which is fair enough.

Anyway, on the day of the river pageant I had to get up at what can only be described as silly O’clock in order to get a good clear spot to watch the events of the day. During most of May we had the most amazing hot weather and everything was set for a great June weekend of celebration. However this June morning was bloody cold, cloudy, wet and actually more like November. The trip into town was made easier when I got to share a lift with a neighbor as far as Tower Hill. Parking up around the back of Cable Street we made our way on foot to the tube line and the crowds at 7am were already building up. We decided to make our way over to Lambeth Bridge and placed ourselves outside the MI5 building, Thames House. The view of the river was excellent and we had a view opposite us of the London Fire brigade riverboat service, which served as a good backdrop.

The time was 8am and the Queen wasn’t passing our location for 7 hours. This is a fact that only really dawned on me once I was perched against the damp river wall without a place to sit. The time passed as slowly as its possible to do without actually going backwards. The temperature started to drop and it was then that I started to wish I were watching it on TV like every other sane human being that day. However things went from bad to worse when the heavens opened and cold rainwater covered us right through to our bones. It was that fine mist rain that gets into every nook and cranny and after 3 hours or so my cranny was soaking wet. However I couldn’t feel my nook due to the cold so every cloud and all that.

The time eventually passed and the crowds behind us were 10 deep. It was at this time that Fleur called and said she was coming to join us. This was great news as I’d not seen her for a while due to her night shifts at the hospital but the logistics of getting to find us in the thick of it was simply amazing. She fought her way though and things were now ready to begin. The rain had stopped for a while and the first of the boats began to pass. The sheer number of row boats, barges, tugs and water craft was staggering and well worth the effort of getting wet and losing all feeling in my legs.

As the Queens barge approached the cheers and passion people had for the Queen was clear and the feelings of patriotism was overwhelming. It made me proud to be British. The Spirit of Chartwell passed by fairly quickly but I did get a chance to take a few pictures before the heavens opened up at full thrust and almost ruined the whole event. Only in England!!!

As soon the more interesting boats passed by we decided to head home before the rush and to get to a 40th birthday party in Chelmsford. This seems to have been the same idea everyone else had and the roads and exit out soon became blocked.

Jubilee crowds

We had to make our way to Green Park which is a good 25 minute walk. So much for a quick get away…

My friend Lisa’s party was really good with Blackjack and Roulette tables to keep everyone entertained and plenty to eat and drink but sadly I didn’t do too well with lady luck. Thank goodness it was play money.

My school friend Vip didn’t do too well either…

Over the following next few days the Diamond Jubilee celebrations continued with a concert and Buckingham Palace and a Parade along the Mall. Having learnt from my river pageant experience I decided to go along fairly late in the day and when I arrived near Buckingham Palace the crowds were beyond a joke and the chances of seeing anything along the Mall was nil.

I managed to fight my way over to Hyde Park to watch it on the big screen with the rest of the crowds, which was pointless really.

I could have watched it on TV at home, which appears to be the lesson of the weekend.

I did manage to do my first BBQ at the flat which involved me burning some meat and slamming it into a bun.

Now it’s time for Euro 2012 and for England to do it’s duty. I’m not a football fan but I’ve actually enjoyed watching the England games and so far we have won our group. Go England!!!

Last night was party night with drinks and laughs at BAFTA. It was an events night with some very good look alike celebs. The Johnny Depp was good as was the Prince William and Kate. The Brad Pitt looked better on camera than in real life. I’m not sure the English accent really works when you’re trying to be an American movie star. Still, I had to muscle in on the action with a photo opportunity.

Lazy Moli…

It would appear that its been over a month since I updated Moliblog.

I’ve been very busy and very lazy.  Not only have I not updated my blog which I pay to write and I’ve not been to the gym for ages which I also pay to use.  Guilty isn’t a strong enough word for how I feel.  I eat all the wrong things and can’t find the will power to stop and go to the gym.  I know its in my interests to be healthy but doughnuts and chocolates taste so good.  I need help!!!

On a less depressing note I’ve been enjoying the arrival of various ships and boats for the Queens Diamond Jubilee Pageant.

The plan I’m told it to assemble around 1000 craft on Sunday 3rd June.  The weather looks terrible but I’m going to go along anyway and take some pictures and maybe see the Queen.  It looks to be a once in a lifetime experience but the big worry beyond the weather and getting up at 6am is the 1 million people who are expected to line the route. Two things I hate are crowds and the lack of toilet facilities which I know will be a problem for my old man bladder. I really don’t want a big Moli puddle but it would ensure that I get plenty of space around me and something to write about in my next blog…

Time Travel in the sock draw…

While looking for something I came across my passport and noticed that it was coming up for renewal.  So, I applied online as you can now and got the paperwork sent to me filled out in all the right places.  Nice and easy.  Then of course you need to get a new passport picture.  As this is something that will haunt me for 10 years I wanted to make sure that it was a decent picture and not one from a booth at the station.  I found somewhere that actually used a human being to take the picture and did my best deadpan look.  When I got back home I compared it to my last two passports.

Travel makes you age...

Aged 20 and aged 30.  One thing that is clear to me, apart from all the stamps from all the travels around the world, the true travel that happens in the sock draw is time itself.  Now at 40 years old I wonder what my younger self would have said to the new addition to the passport picture family.  Maybe, something like, stay off all the pies or invest in some hair dye. Either way, the sock draw certainly takes you on a journey without having to leave the house.  I wonder what the next picture will have to show me?

End of the Mini Adventure…

Many people come and go in your life. Some people you lose touch with, some you can’t wait to get rid of and some people leave you when you least want or expect it. I know that with some of these people I’ve cried and had my heart broken. Now I know that I’m a silly old fool but I get this way with cars too. I’ve had a fair few cars over the years and all of them have had names and personalities. Some are hard work and a real pain. Some are fun and exciting to be with. My last car was the latter. Her name was Jennie and she was amazing to drive, got upset from time to time and took me on mini adventures… Having reached the ripe old age of 9 years, she was starting to need more work and as my life needs change she became less practical.

As a kid I used to have a duck called Donald. My duck was a pet with a personality and a distinctive quack. I had Donald from a chick and when the time came for her to go and spend time with the other ducks we had to say goodbye with the hope that she would be happy.  It was sad to say goodbye but it was the best for everyone.

So, today I said goodbye to another dear friend with a tear in my eye and a huge sense of sadness. However, my emotions are mixed with excitement as I started a new adventure with Bessie.  I can only hope that I have just as much fun with her.  She couldn’t be any more different from Jennie.  The size difference is tremendous. It’s like driving a bus!!!

I’m looking forward to finding out her personality and I wish myself safe and happy travels.
